Sue Workman

Biography

Sue Workman is the Director of User Support in the Teaching and Learning Information Technologies division of UITS. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and Computer Technology from the University of Indianapolis and has begun some coursework toward an MBA. Prior to her career at Indiana University Ms. Workman was employed as a Systems Engineer, a Systems Manager, a Manager of Technology Operations and Manager of Support and Training for organizations including Hewlett Packard and the Naval Avionics Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ms. Workman's responsibilities have ranged from management of major corporate accounts to hardware and software support and leadership of systems engineering teams.

In 1993 Ms. Workman came to work for Indiana University in the University Computing Services Department (UCS). She served as Senior Department Computing Advisor and then Coordinator of the Distributed Support Program. Ms. Workman left UCS in 1994 to accept a position as Technology Director in the IU Political Science Department.

In 1996, Ms. Workman returned to the newly restructured University Computing Services Department now called University Information Technology Services (UITS), as Manager of the Support Center. During her tenure in this position Ms. Workman achieved a variety of successes including improving quality of service in the face of reduced budget allocations, implementing quality processes and metrics into Support Center operations, and managing the development and content of IU's award winning Knowledge Base. In the year 2000, Ms. Workman became the Director of Teaching and Learning Information Technologies for the Bloomington Campus. After an organizational re-structuring Ms. Workman's title changed to the current 'Director of User Support' and the scope of her responsibilities was expanded to include all campuses within the Indiana University system.

As Director of User Support, Ms. Workman provides leadership for developing and implementing innovative information technology support in a rapidly changing environment. Ms. Workman's major recent accomplishments include leading negotiations for Enterprise License Agreements with Microsoft and Macromedia, contributing to planning of campus wireless service deployment and support, and successfully leading the Information Commons project team.
