Home of the Lizard King

The Doors (1965-1971) are possibly (next to Aerosmith) the greatest American rock band of all time. The foursome of Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, and Robby Krieger were renowned for their dark style, sinister lyrics, unpredictable live performances, and above all, the danger and instability of Jim Morrison. They released six studio albums prior to Jim's death in Paris in 1971: The Doors, Strange Days, Waiting for the Sun, The Soft Parade, Morrison Hotel, and L.A. Woman. They also released two live albums, one called Alive She Cried and one called (correct me if I'm wrong and you know better) The Doors: Live in Concert. There are three greatest hits albums: 13, a single disc Best of the Doors, and a double disc Best of the Doors. Following Jim's death, the group recorded an instrumental album. I don't recall its name offhand and it is hard to find. E-mail me if you have any leads. In 1979, the group reassembled (minus Jim) to record background music for an album of Jim's poetry, An American Prayer. Throughout his short life, Jim wrote many poems, some of which may be found here.

Note: There are a few Doors tracks you will not find here, such as Backdoor Man, Alabama Song, Little Red Rooster, and Crawling Kingsnake. This is because these songs are actually cover version--and as such are not in my sheet music or lyrics book. If anyone has the lyrics to any of these songs, please e-mail me so I can add them to the archive.

No eternal reward
Will forgive us now
For wasting the dawn.
