NORRIS, Willaim: Born 01 Oct. 1761, Rockingham Co., VA; d. 12 Aug. 1833, Coshocton Co., Oh. Married 1783 Sarah Ann Graves in Winchester, Va. He settled and died in Virginia Twp., Coshocton County and is buried in Mill Fork Baptist Cemetery. Was pensioned in Coshocton Co. --From: Gwen Oliver

PARKE, John: He was born Apr 1762 in MD. Living in Brown Co., Ohio in 1832 when he applied for pension (S.17002). He had lived for 17 or 18 years in Hampshire Co., VA, then 17 years in Greene Co., Tenn., three years in Highland Co., Ohio and afterward resided in Brown Co., OH. He was a private in the Virginia Militia under Col. Morrison and in the Continental line under Col. Broadhead and Col Gibson. William married (1) Lettice Moseley who d. 1823 in OH; (2) Mary Darrel. PARKISON, Daniel Sr.: b. 2 Mar 1754 in Cordorus Twp., York Co., PA; d. 7 Jan 1838 in Somerset, Perry Co., OH; bur. in the New Reading Cemetery, New Reading, Perry Co., OH. He has a very large grave stone. His pension number is #18542, granted in 1832. His father was Edward Parkison, b England in 1725, d Sep 1755 in York Co., PA. Daniel m. Catherine Overmire, b. 12 Sep 1756 in Paxton Twp., Dauphin Co., PA; d. 7 Aug 1813 in Somerset, Perry Co., OH. Catherine was the daughter of Capt. John George Overmire, also a Revolutionary Soldier. Daniel and Catherine had 10 children; Mary, b. 6 Jan 1778, George, b. 20 Nov 1779, Margaret, b. 7 Aug 1781, John, b. 19 Jul 1783, Catherine, b. 22 Feb 1786, Elizabeth, b. 4 Jun 1788, Daniel, Jr., b. 24 Apr 1791, Jacob, b. 14 Mar 1793, Esther, b. 3 Nov 1795 and Samuel Mentor, b. 4 Jun 1798. --From: Larry Clum

War Pension Files: S8939, appl 9 May 1835 Ashtabula Co OH, sol was b 8 Nov 1759 at Waterbury CT & he lived there until age of 16 then moved to New Bethlehem in Albany Co NY where he lived at enl & later moved to LaFayette NY & also enl there & after the wall of 1779 he lived 3 yrs in Charlemont MA then 6 yrs in LaFayette NY then 5 yrs in Genessee NY then 10 yrs in Causawago PA then moved to Ashtabula Co OH. PARRIS, Joseph: My Great Great Grandfather Joseph Parris, Antioch, Monroe County, Ohio served in the Revolutionery War. He immigrated to this country from France and settled in Ohio whence he married a German Girl?. He had served Napoleon in the French Army and was a sailor for 20 years in the French Navy. They had nine children born in Ohio, four girls and 5 boys. William, my Great Grandfather. Thomas and Henry came to Illinois. The rest stayed in Ohio. William Located in Vermillion County. Henry settled in Benton, Arkansas, Thomas settled in Chillicothe, Missouri. William was born in Ohio stated herein on Feb. 3, 1812. From my meager information, the rest of the brothers and sisters (no record of names) apparently stayed around Monroe County, Ohio. --From: Jim Williams
PARSONS, Harmon: He was allotted land in Ohio as a Rev. War Soldier in Miami Co. Married to Mary Patterson (b 1771) and they had 10 children. Name is sometimes listed as Herman Pearson (or Parson) He served in Rev. War from 6/1789-1783 and may have been an interpreter for Gen. Washington as he sopke German, French and English. Harmon, wife Mary, and daughters Elizabeth, Catherine and Susan all died within 10 days of each other of "milk sickness" and were buried in Madison Co. between Springfield and New London - "near farm of Robert Turner, admin. of the estate". There are some indications he fathered 15 children so may have had a previous marriage, or some of the children did not survive. We have records of 10. --From: Louise Morell

Additional on Conrad PETERSON: Conrad was with Harry "Lighthorse" Lee for a while. He died poverty stricken in Knox Co., Ohio in 1848. Court of Common Pleas records includes a statement that he died and was receiving pension. I can find no trace of his being buried in Knox Co. Names two children, one of which was Charity Peterson. Charity married a John Miller in 1825, Wayne Co., Ohio. --From: J. Nalley
POLLEY, Daniel: Connecticut, S40285. Pension filed November 1821 at Huntington, Gallia County, Ohio, at which time claimant was sixty-two years old, wife [unnamed] was sixty years old and his son, Asa, was fourteen. Born about 1759, pensioner enlisted at Windham County, Connecticut on February 13, 1781 for three years. Private, Col. Butler's Conn. Regt. Mustered in at Lebanon, Conn. and discharged at West Point, New York on January 1, 1784. Private, Capt. Hodge's Company, Col. Sherman's 5th Regt. of Connecticut Line. --From: Dick Randt
POTTS, David: Son of Jonas and Mary Potts, b.11(?), 1756, probably in Pennsylvania, and removed to Loudoun Co., VA, with his parents. Served in the Virginia Continental Line (enl, Pvt., Col. Dan Morgan"s and James Wood's Company, Virgina Regt., 12-5-1776. Granted a soldier's pension on June 10, 1819. His age was given as 77 years (?). He removed to Ohio and settled on Paint Creek, about five miles below Chilicothe. He subsequently removed to Marion County where he died 5-27-1834 (Grave registration shows 1837); bur. in the Quarry Street Cemetery in Marion. There are no longer any markers left in the Cemetery. The body's remain. There was a Cholera out break in Marion in the mid 1850's after which this cemetery was abandoned and allowed to fall into disrepair. David's name appears on a marble cornerstone of the Marion County Courthouse along with others. --From: Al Potts

Born 14 Mar 1757 Lancaster PA; d. 10 Oct 1833 Clark County OH; m. REAVES/REEVES, Asher: Lived in Greene Cty. He was born 1757 in Prince Willam County, Va., son of George Reaves and wife Anna Webster. Asher entered service summer 1778 and numerous times after. He died 31 July 1845 buried in Baptist graveyard, Jamestown, Silvercreek Township, Greene County. Pensioned 1833. REED, Amos: Served from NJ as a Private under Col. Shreve; papers stated that he was inscribed on the pension roll at the rate of $8 per month, to commence on the 25 of April, 1818; resident of Perry County, OH; later to Belmont Co. where he died 7 Jan 1834. --From: Shannon Moore

RUSSELL, Gideon Jr.: moved to Ohio in the early part of the 1800's and was living in Russell Township which was located in Geauga County in northeastern Ohio. One source I found shows him living there in 1818. I have also received information indicating that he served in the "Raccoon Brigade", which I believe was a military unit from Connecticut, during the Revolutionary War. Gideon died in 1837 and is buried in Geauga County. --From: Walt Russell
SEWALL/SEWELL, Thomas: Thomas Sewell was born (bapt.) 8 December 1751 in Westminster, London, England. He was baptized at St. Martin in the Fields Church (now on Trafalgar Square). He came to America at the age of 22 as a bookkeeper, indentured for four years, on the ship Elizabeth, which sailed the week of Dec 11 - 18, 1773, from London to Virginia . He enlisted in Botetourt County, Virginia on 5 August 1776 in Captain William McKee's Company and was transferred to Captain Andrew Wallace's Company, Col. James Wood's 12th Virginia Regiment. He was in the battles of Germantown and Monmouth, was commissary clerk for Captain John Knight, Commissary for the Virginia Line, and was Quartermaster Sergeant at Valley Forge. He was discharged November 5, 1778. He married Hannah Keller in Boutetourt County, Virginia ca. 1780. He received bounty land in Ohio but assigned it to another person. He and Hannah moved to Pee Pee Township, Pike County, Ohio around 1815. He was a schoolteacher and received a Revolutionary War pension. Thomas and Hannah had the following children: William, m. Sarah Ward; Joseph, m. Mary Gooden; David, m. Rachel Goodwin; James, m. Fanny McCoy; Anna, m. William Deacon; Sarah, m. Henry Albright; Elijah m. Nancy Goodin; Thomas, Jr., m. Letitia Henry; John, and Peter. Thomas died in Pike County, Ohio on 13 October 1834. Most of his children moved to Indiana and Kansas. --From: Lita Karlstrand

SLACK, John: born 27 June, 1754, in Lower Makefield Twp., Bucks Co., PA; served in the War from Bucks Co. in 1776 as a fifer. He moved to Loudoun Co., VA and was drafted again in 1780. Married 1) Sarah Lapose in PA; m2) Elizabeth Swank in VA. The family moved to a cabin about 5 miles from Zanesville, OH, likely Washington Twp., in 1806. He likely died in the area in 1838. David Smith (b. 12 Mar. 1761 in Fredericksburg, NY) with his wife, Chloe Hughson, and their children: James, Charlotte, Sophia, David Jr., Nehemiah, Alvah, and Chloe Ann, were living in Fairfield County, Ohio in 1818. David Smith died 5 Oct. 1823 in Delaware County, Ohio. His widow, Chloe Smith, married Peres Main on 19 July 1829 in Delaware County and she died there 20 Aug. 1849. SONNER, Anthony: Resided near Taylorsville, Highland Co., OH. Born in Shenandoah Co. VA in 1769; d. in White Oak Twp., Highland Co., OH Sept. 2, 1843 at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 18 days. Mar. Elizabeth Geeting (b. 1774; d. 25 Jul 1848), daughter of Rev. George A. Geeting, of Woodstock, VA, an early Bishop of the United Brethren Church. Anthony became a minister before he moved west to Ohio. Once there he founded the Sonner Chapel. He was also a farmer and miller; operated a grist mill and saw mill. They located the land granted him for his war service, on Massie and Kerr Survey No. 3,849 in the northeastern corner of the township, as early as 1800. Six children: Jacob, George, David, William, Ann and Sarah Sonner. Anthony and Elizabeth are bur. in the Sonner Cemetery, Highland Co., OH. --From: Calvin Sonner

SWINNERTON, James: (Surname also known as Swinerton or Swinington) Resided Marion County, OH. b. 8-13/16-1757 d. 12-6-1824; Pension "application executed May 20, 1818 while living in Delaware, Delaware Co., OH." From the Marion Daily Star, Marion, Ohio, Saturday, April 9, 1898, p.12: "James Swinnerton, an ancestor of "Genial Jim," who is yet well remembered here, was born at Salem, Suffolk county, Mass., August 13, 1757. He enlisted from his native state at the age of eighteen, but the date of his discharge is not known. WAGGONER, Jacob: resided in Clark County, Ohio. He was born abt 1754 but I don't know where. According to the book The Pennsylvania-German in the Revolutionary War 1775-1783 he died November 4, 1823, aged sixty-eight, in Clark County. WAUGH, Joseph: Lived in Ross Co Ohio 1804-1850. Born 4 Dec 1763 in Morris, Litchfield Twp. Litchifield Co CT; died 12 Jan 1850 Buckskin Township Ross Co Ohio buried in the Waugh Cemetery, Buckskin Twp Ross Co Ohio. Married 18 Jan 1792 in Allegheny Co PA to Mary Hopkins (daughter of Edward Hopkins, Rev. Soldier who served in New Jersey). Mary Hopkins was born on 29 Dec 1773 and died 1 Aug 1861 near Stanton Fayette Co Ohio. Served in 1776 at the age of 14 as a subsitute and 4 other tours. At Horse Neck (West Point) under command of Gen. Arnold. His father Joseph Waugh also served and he also served as a substitute for his brother Thaddeus Waugh, orderly Sergeant in Captain Lindley's Company. WHITE, Thomas: Thomas White enlisted in Fauquier Co., VA in the fall of 1776. He was allowed pension (claim S 40685) on his application executed 5 May 1818, as a resident of Licking Co., OH, aged ca 62 yrs. In 1820, soldier referred to his wife as aged 66 yrs., but did not give her name; and son, Nathan, and daughter, Sally, but did not state their ages. WHITEMAN, Christian: (DAR has him listed as Whitman in their Patriot Index on page 739) b. 1762 in Germany, came to PA, fought with Berks Co 6 BN PA MIL in the war and was awarded land in Ohio. We beleive he moved there c1805; d. in 1827 and is buried in Reber Hill Cemetery, Pickaway County OH. --From: Patty Arndt
WHITTENBERGER/WERTENBERGER, John Jacob: He is buried in St. Luke Cemetery in New Middletown, Mahoning Co., Ohio. The spelling on the head stone is a little different, "Wertenberger" but it is reportedly due to it being interchangeable with Whittenberger on some family records. WILCOX, Hosea: Born in Killingworth, CT 15 Sep 1753 and died 1844. He applied for a pension 5 Nov 1832 at the age of 79. At the time of enlistment, living in Conway, Mass. WOOD, James: Darke Co. OH (reference Pension #W4717 VA) Private VA, enlisted at Leesburgh, VA in Mar 1779; was age 59 in 1820; m. Jeremina (b. Delaware, 26 Jan. 1774 - d/o John Phillips) 15 Jan. 1793, Botetourt Co. VA. He died 3 Jan. 1839. Pensioned 1819 Preble Co. OH, moved from there to Darke Co. prior to 1839. --From: Glenda Thompson
WOODBURY, Nathan:of Beverly, MA, moved to Dover Twnshp., Athens Co., Ohio in the late 1790's (his second child was born there in 1798). Nathan served in the MA Militia and in the MA Continental Line during three separate enlistments. After his military experiences he shipped out of Salem, MA, five times on privateers under the flag of the Massachusetts State Navy. He and his ship were captured four of the five times. After one capture he was impressed into the Royal Navy for nearly a year serving abord the HMS Ruby, a 64 gun ship of the line. After a few months in Mills Prison at Plymouth he was exchanged to Boston and shipped out again only to be captured and exchanged to New York. After that he went west, pausing in York, PA, to get married and then to Ohio. He applied for a pension in 1832 under the new act of 1832. His application is on file at Athens. His third child, Nathan Preston Woodbury, left Athens Co. for Union City, Randolph Co., IN. Several of his children were married in Darke Co. OH while living in Randolph Co. IN. --From: John T. WYATT, Nathaniel: B. 1762, Albany, N.Y. d 1-29-1824 in Waldo twp., Maron County, Ohio. Served in New York Militia of Orange County in War of 1776. Mar. Anna Brundige. She d. 2-25-1858. Nathaniel went to VA., then to Pickaway Co., OH, and then to Marion Co., OH (Soldiers of Marion County, Ohio 1776-1900) by David L. Hartline. 1978 Marion County, OH says that he came to Waldo twp in 1806. --From: Al Potts
