The Language Arts program will be based upon the proficiencies as stated in the Indiana Department of Education's guidelines for Indiana Students.

    Every week students will complete grammar pages that coordinate with our new reading series. The English language is a very difficult language to master, and it is our desire for every student to be proficient in language skills.

    In addition to the grammar pages, students will have assignments in the Spelling text.  Every week the spelling assignment for the entire week will be posted on Monday.  Students will be expected to have four pages ready to grade on Thursday when they come to class.  This gives some flexibility in their homework load.  On Friday of each week students will take a spelling test over that week's list of words.

    We will use the English text to learn basic grammar and writing strategies.  Students will have a daily English assignment, usually two workbook pages.  Every other chapter in the English book is a writing chapter, so we will be doing a good deal of writing this year, as well.  There will be a test at the end of each grammar chapter.  I keep all tests, so if you ever want to see one, just write me a note and I will send it home in an envelope.  Please initial it, and return it to me.
